Welcome to Mr. Heitmann's

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the
Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the
trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a
Protestant. Then they came for me...By that time there was no one to speak
up for anyone."

"In respect of the Jewish Question, the Führer has decided to make a
clean sweep. He prophesied to the Jews that if they again brought about a
world war, they would experience their annihilation in it. That wasn't just
a catch-word. The world war is here, and the annihilation of Jewry must be
the necessary consequence."

Important Players in the
Holocaust
ADOLF HITLER
Adolf
Hitler Facts about the man who tried to conquer
FACT: With support from the nationalists, Hitler gained
a majority at the last 'democratic' elections held in Germany on 5 March
1933 and with cynical skill he used the whole gamut of persuasion, propaganda,
terror and intimidation to secure his hold on power.
Rudolf Hess
Hitler's #3 Man
Rudolf
Hess
FACT: On A Mission To England, Hess also displayed
signs of mental instability to his British captors and they concluded he
was half mad and represented only himself. Churchill, realizing this, and
somewhat infuriated by his statements, ordered Hess to be imprisoned for
the duration and treated like any high ranking POW.
THE DOCTOR OF DEATH:
"A Doctor"
Josef Mengele:
The Doctor of Death
FACT: Josef Mengele fed
his legend by dramatizing murderous policies, such as his drawing a line
on the wall of the children's block between 150 and 156 centimeters (about
5 feet or 5 feet 2 inches) from the floor, and sending those whose heads
could not reach the line to the gas chamber.
Adolf Eichmann
THE TRIAL
Adolf
Eichmann
FACT: The Wannsee Conference of 20 January 1942
consolidated Eichmann's position as the 'Jewish specialist' of the RSHA and
Heydrich now formally entrusted him with implementing the 'Final Solution'.
Oscar
Schindler
Schindler During
the Second World War
The
Story of OSCAR SCHINDLER
FACT: At the point when
his ambitions have been realized and he could walk away from the war a rich
man while "his Jews" die in Plazow and Auschwitz, Oscar Schindler
desperately spends every penny he has bribing and paying off Nazi officials
to protect and save his Jews. Later accounts have revealed that Schindler
spent something like 4 million German marks keeping his Jews out of the death
camps - an enormous sum of money for those times.
Joseph Goebbels
Master Propagandist
FACT: On 10 May 1933 he staged the great ritual 'burning
of the books' in Berlin, where the works of Jewish, Marxist and other
'subversive' authors were publicly burned in huge bonfires.
Heinrich Himmler
"COMBATTING THE GYPSY
NUISANCE"
Encarta
Biography
FACT: In a speech to 100 SS generals,
Himmler spoke of the extermination of Jews. His handwritten note uses the
euphemism "Judenevakuierung", meaning evacuation of the Jews. However, in
sound recordings of the speech, Himmler defined "evacuation" as "extermination."
Eva Braun
Mistress To A
Monster
FACT: She entered Hitler's household in 1936, but they
were married just a few days before their double suicide

St.
Maximilian Kolbe Priest gives his life for another
The Saint From Auschwitz
FACT: Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish priest who died
as prisoner 16770 in Auschwitz-Birkenau, 1941 August 14. When a prisoner
escaped from the camp, the Nazis selected 10 others to be killed by starvation
in reprisal for the escape. One of the 10 selected to die, Franciszek
Gajowniczek, began to cry: My wife! My children! I will never see them
again! At this St. Maximilian stepped forward and asked to die in his
place. His request was granted ...

were subjected to cruel, mutilating, and pointless medical experiments.
FACT:
Auschwitz-Birkenau became
the killing centre where the largest numbers of European Jews were killed.
After an experimental gassing there in September 1941 of 850 malnourished
and ill prisoners, mass murder became a daily routine. By mid
1942, mass gassing of Jews using Zyklon-B began at Auschwitz , where
extermination was conducted on an industrial scale with some estimates running
as high as three million persons eventually killed through gassing, starvation,
disease, shooting, and burning.

"....in spite of everything, I still
believe that people are good at
heart."
Anne
Frank
The idea that the Holocaust represents 11
million lives that abruptly ended is a difficult concept, but this is an
important point. The Holocaust was the extermination of people not for who
they were but for what they were. Groups such as handicaps, Gypsies, homosexuals,
Jehovah's Witnesses, Catholics, Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, political
dissidents and others were persecuted by the Nazis because of their
religious/political beliefs, physical defects, or failure to fall into the
"Aryan" ideal
